Your heart pounds as your pole flexes in a tight arc. Beads of perspiration dot your forehead. After pumping and reeling for what seems an eternity, you glimpse fate. That barn-door halibut you've fought long and hard for is finally surfacing. The captain lends advice as you maneuver this monster in close to the deckhand's gaff. Moments later, you've accomplished your mission. With the pro team from Alaska Excursion Adventures, Inc.  you've just landed a trophy halibut and one of life's most unforgettable experiences.

Every fishing season
Alaska Excursion Adventures, Inc.  helps anglers fulfill their dreams of catching giant halibut. With us, you'll prowl Kachemak Bay and Alaska's Cook Inlet in search of the halibut of a lifetime. If you're looking for a professional charter boat team that can consistently put fish on the scales and in the freezer, then we're the outfit for you. Join us on the water for full-day halibut fishing from May - September.

homer alaska halibut fishingThe “SeaWitch” is a 43’ vessel built by Delta Marine. It is a coast guard inspected vessel powered by twin Cummins diesels which make it one of the fastest vessels in Homer for its class. We are licensed to carry 21 passengers but to insure high quality, personalized service for our clients we usually take only 12 clients on daily halibut fishing trips, 5 persons on long range overnight fishing trips or only 4 persons on the 5+ day hunting and/or fishing adventures.

Safety is important to us so the SeaWitch is outfitted with state of the art electronics and equipment including a 25 man self-inflating life raft, EPIRB, dual VHF radios, SSB, GPS and radar to name a few. For your enjoyment, we also try to provide you with many of the comforts of home such as a spacious, heated salon, enclosed bathroom, hot running water, microwave, refrigerator, TV/VCR, CD player, 4 bunks, lots of inside and outside seating besides a large, flush deck that provides plenty of elbow room.

The skipper of the SeaWitch is Captain Michael Coates. He obtained his captain’s license when he was 18 years old on Lake Michigan where he salmon chartered with his Dad since he was 8 years old. Then, to help pay his way through college, Michael began running a halibut boat in Alaska during summers. He followed the usual path and graduated college and got married. Michael and his wife, Laurie, decided to make Alaska their home and moved here in 1990.

Michael started Sorry Charlie Charters running a 6 passenger boat with Laurie as his deckhand. Then, when nature took its course and kids started coming, Laurie had to stop deckhanding. So, they started a bed and breakfast so she could stay home and raise the kids but still be involved in the business. This continued to 1998, when they upgraded to a bigger boat to take better care of their increasing number of clients. They purchased the SeaWitch and expanded into also doing hunting trips. They incorporated and changed the name of the business to Alaska Excursion Adventures, Inc. to better encompass all the facets of the business and to make marketing easier.

Michael and Laurie thoroughly enjoy their life in Homer raising a son and daughter, running halibut fishing charters, taking clients deer hunting and operating their bed and breakfast! So when you combine Michael’s fun-loving personality with his 25 plus years experience chartering, you have a winning combination for a fantastic excursion!

FISH PROCESSING
We clean your halibut on board the boat on the way home so you will have 4 fillets per fish which clean up at about a 50% rate. There are Seafood Processors available on the Spit. Captain Mike can call them and they will pick your fish up right at the boat if you like. They charge about $1 a pound to vacuum pack and freeze the fish for you. You may then pack them in your own cooler or the Processor can sell you a freezer box for taking the fish home as luggage with your airline. This is the most economical way to get your fish home, however, the Processor can also ship it overnight express to your home if you prefer.
